Guide to mother earth magazine yurt
Yurt ReportYurts are antique and they are high-tech. For centuries the inhabitants of Central Asia, such as Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan utilized yurts on account of of their usefulness and mobility. Also known as "gurs," yurts are traditionally crafted of felt or canvas. In todays world, these round tents are common substitutes for cabins in several state parks, including Maryland and Colorado.
Virtually all present day yurts in North America are made from highly specialized components. They are planned and built to stand up against severe weather. Also building one is a hard undertaking, as they are not meant to be shifted from place to place.
