Yurts are old and they are modern. For millennia the people of Central Asia, such as Mongolia and Siberia favored yurts because of their usefulness and mobility. Also known as "gurs," yurts are traditionally crafted of felt or canvas. Today, these dome-topped tents are frequent replacements for cabins in lots of state parks, including Maryland and Colorado.

Most contemporary yurts in America are constructed using hi-tech substances. They are designed and built to survive extreme violent storms. Also setting one up is a hard job, as they are not meant to be shifted around.
